Introduction For the purposes of this assignment, a female advisor in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was interviewed about her role as an academic advisor and in working with high-ability students. A female undergraduate student in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering was also interviewed about her experiences with her academic advisor and as a Trustee Scholar. The student provided her first name as â€Å"Vincy† but not her last name. It is important to note the advisor interviewed is not the advisor of the student interviewed. For better understanding, the student is a Trustee Scholar at USC; she received a full tuition scholarship for academic achievement in high school. Vincy is also an honors program student at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. In bringing together our interviews, along with current research on academic advising in post-secondary institutions, we will consider student dynamics, needs, advisement issues, and potential ways to effectively advise high-ability students. Advising High-Ability Students Doughtery argued that â€Å"[High-ability] students are often overlooked in the advising process because they typically excel in academics and appear to work in a self-reliant manner† (as cited in Gordon, Habley, and Grites et al., 2008, p.200). Throughout the ages, our society has documented homosexuality. Within our culture, homosexuality has been largely condemned. In looking at the historical perspective of homosexuality, the responses were different with each society that was dealing with it. The Greeks were okay with it due to their belief that some of their mythical gods were engaging in homosexual behavior. Christianity denounced those sexual associations and made their belief and intentions clear that this behavior was not to continue. The legal system became intertwined with the Christian belief that homosexuality was sinful and would punish inappropriate sex acts as criminal offenses (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner-Rathus, 2005). Hamlet is a play that tells thestory of a young prince whos father recently dies and his uncle, Claudius marries his mother the queen and takes the throne. As the play is told Hamlet finds out his father was murdered by the recently crowned king. The theme that remains constant throughout the play is appearanceversus reality. Things within the play appear to be true and honest but in reality are infested with evil. Many of the characters within the play hide behind a mask of falseness. Four of the main characters that hid behind this mask are Polonius, Rosencrantz (Guildenstern), and theking Claudias. From behind this mask they give the impression of a person who is sincere andgenuine, in reality they are plagued with lies and evil. There appearance will make it very difficult for Hamlet to uncover the truth, the characters hide behind. Polonius the kings royal assistant has a preoccupation with appearance. Claudius makes it very difficult for Hamlet to uncover the truth about the true nature of Claudius in the future. Through the characters within the play all help to show the theme, that being appearance verses reality. Polonius, Rosencrantz (Guildenstern) and the king all appear to be good and honest. As Hamlet finds out, all contain lies and have hidden intentions within them. As eachcharacter is presented in the play all appear to be good and honest making it a difficult task for Hamlet to uncover the hidden truth about the nature of each character. The author argues that materialism, fame and fortune have taken over society and that as a result society has forgotten to give meaning to life. Good mental health is a fundamental aspect of life, but, as we are aware, a huge proportion of our society, around 25%, will at some stage suffer from a form of mental illness.
