Alcohol Behavioral Couple Therapy ( Abct ) - 1491 Words

Alcohol Behavioral Couple Therapy (ABCT) is used with individuals who have an alcohol use disorder, this therapy also includes their partners. ABCT is an outpatient treatment therapy based on an â€Å"Intimate partner behaviors and couple interactions can be triggers for drinking, and positive intimate relationship is a key source of motivation to change drinking behavior.† McCrady and Epstein (2004) explained the goal of ABCT is to help a client achieve a state of abstinence and maintain it, teach partners how to handle situations pertaining to drinking, and enhance the overall relationship. Treatment Protocol Accord to Farrell and Fals-Stewart (2006) BCT is a 12-session process, each session has a corresponding checklist for the therapist to complete. The first session is called: â€Å"Introduction, Recovery Contract, Catch Your Partner Doing Something Nice.† The checklist would require the therapist to introduce themselves and make the clients feel welcomed. The therapist would then explain in more detail what BCT is and why it is important. The third part of this checklist would be to explain promises and to ask for a verbal commitment for the clients to keep promises in the upcoming weeks. Part four gives an overview of each session that is to come in the upcoming weeks, while part five discusses trust discussion and a recovery contract. Throughout the ages, our society has documented homosexuality. Within our culture, homosexuality has been largely condemned. In looking at the historical perspective of homosexuality, the responses were different with each society that was dealing with it. The Greeks were okay with it due to their belief that some of their mythical gods were engaging in homosexual behavior. Christianity denounced those sexual associations and made their belief and intentions clear that this behavior was not to continue. The legal system became intertwined with the Christian belief that homosexuality was sinful and would punish inappropriate sex acts as criminal offenses (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner-Rathus, 2005). Apperance vs. Realty in Hamlet Essay Hamlet one of Shakespeares greatest plays, where the young prince of Denmark must uncover the truth about his fathers death. Hamlet is a play that tells thestory of a young prince whos father recently dies and his uncle, Claudius marries his mother the queen and takes the throne. As the play is told Hamlet finds out his father was murdered by the recently crowned king. The theme that remains constant throughout the play is appearanceversus reality. Things within the play appear to be true and honest but in reality are infested with evil. Many of the characters within the play hide behind a mask of falseness. Four of the main characters that hid behind this mask are Polonius, Rosencrantz (Guildenstern), and theking Claudias. From behind this mask they give the impression of a person who is sincere andgenuine, in reality they are plagued with lies and evil. There appearance will make it very difficult for Hamlet to uncover the truth, the characters hide behind. Polonius the kings royal assistant has a preoccupation with appearance. He always wants to keep up the appearance of loving and caring person. Polonius appears like a man who loves and cares about his son, Laertes. Polonius speaks to his son with advice that sounds sincere but in reality it is rehearsed, hollow and without feeling. Polonius gives his advice only to appear to be the loving caring father. The reality is he only speaks to appear sincere as apolitician, to look good rather then actually be good: And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. Act 1Polonius gives his son Laertes his blessing to go away, he sends a spy to follow him and keep an eye on him. This shows his lack of trust for anyone, he gives the appearance of a confident father who trusts his son to go off on his own. In reality he lies about his trust for his son by sending a spy to watch him. His advice he gives his son is rehearsed and only said to give the appearance of a loving father. Polonius further adds to the theme appearance verses reality by ordering Ophelia to stop seeing Hamlet. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two of Hamlets childhood friends who when asked by the king, try to find out what is troubling the young prince. Both help to contribute to the theme by showing there appearance of being Hamlets friends. The pair go to Hamlet pretending to be his friends when in truth they are only there because the king asked them to find the truth. There is some irony within the twins, they are asked by the king to find out the truth by hiding within a lie, by pretending to be his friend: A dream is but a shadow Act II. Act I Claudius appears to be even more caring when insulted by Hamlet he still shows love and general care for Hamlet. A normal king would have become angry and Hamlet would have gotten into trouble. Claudius shows the council that he is understanding of Hamlets grief over his father: A little more than kin, and less than kind. Act I . However, many countries today are not free. For example, the war in Iraq is about trying to free people from oppression. Before the war, Iraq was like Big Brother and no one had any freedom. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show that governments that take freedom away from its citizens are evil. He used three characters to illustrate this evil: Parsons, Mr. Charrington, and OBrien. Parsons is a fat and obnoxious member of the Party. He works at the Ministry of Truth. His job is to conduct propaganda and historical revisionism. His wife is rather stupid and his children have no manners. They are also member of the Junior Spies who spy on adults (especially their parents) and report any disloyalty to the Party. Next, Mr. Carrington is an old man who runs a secondhand store in the prole district. He seems to be nice to Winston and Julia. He also seems to support Winstons rebellion against the Party. However, no one in Winstons world is who he seems to be. In reality Mr. Carrington is a member of the Thought Police. Winston even tried to catch the attention of the Thought Police by writing Big Brother is Watching You in his diary. Finally, the most evil character is OBrien. He is a member of the Inner Party, and he makes Winston believes that he is rebellious, too. The revolutionary group called the Brotherhood is what Winston wants to join, and he thinks OBrien can get him into it.
